Our Purpose
Oak Bluff Bible Church exists to fulfill the Great Commandment and Commission:
Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)
37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Making History
The foundation for Oak Bluff Bible Church was laid by another – Rosenort Fellowship Chapel – starting back in 1999. A team of passionate volunteers from their church hosted a popular Vacation Bible School program in our community each summer. With the popularity of the program, God seemed to be prompting towards a larger plan He had in store.
Spurred by the community response, and energized by a love for family, friends, and neighbors, six families rallied together around a common, God-given vision – to plant a church in their community where none existed. Planning for the new church began in the fall of 2004, and culminated with first worship service at Oak Bluff Bible Church, held in the Oak Bluff Community School, on September 11, 2005.

You might ask, “Where do you start, when starting a church?” We asked the same thing. We've started with the basics – a dynamic and relevant Sunday morning worship service, a Sunday School experience so exciting that kids drag their parents out of bed on Sunday mornings, and a junior youth and senior youth program that challenges and guides our young adults as they step out to take on the world. Every Sunday morning includes time for hanging out together, enjoying a cup of coffee, and filling up on some wonderful treats, all before the service begins. This is a great way to get to know each other better, and make new friends.
What's next for Oak Bluff Bible Church? Our top priority for 2008-2009 is to develop our Life Groups support structure. These groups will provide the adults of our church family and our community with a safe place to gather together, outside of Sunday mornings. In these smaller groups everyone can find friendship, fellowship, and encouragement as we are challenged to learn and grow in Jesus Christ.
The commission Jesus gave us, to make disciples of all nations, is constantly on our hearts. We continually seek His guidance – where does Jesus want us to go? The Bible records that God once asked, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”. Isaiah answered with “Here I am, send me!” Whether across the street or across the world, we want to be ready and willing to go where Jesus calls.
Oak Bluff Bible Church is a young church, being built one changed life at a time. Jesus once told his disciple Peter that “upon this rock I will build my church”. Today, Christ's church in Oak Bluff is being built on people just like you and me. People who are willing to give their best to Jesus. People who follow Him diligently. People who live their lives following the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. It isn't always easy, and there are times when we feel insufficient. That's why we are a church, a family, a community of believers who support and encourage each other, and celebrate together the joy and blessings that come from Jesus.
When this life is over, wouldn't it be amazing to hear the Creator of the universe say to you, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”? What will you do with your life? Together, let's step out in faith and follow Jesus where no other has gone before.
